Al-Masri specializes in authentic Egyptian cuisine of the different regions of Egypt. From our succulent lamb or chicken tender kabobs to our baked duck, chicken, or cheese stuffed tenderloin, our menu will satisfy the most adventurous palate. Our menu is taken from the kitchens of mothers and grandmothers alike and we boast using the freshest ingredients from produce to meats. Concurrently we also boast the best belly dancers in Northern California who are the graduates of the Sausan Academy of Egyptian Dance, a dance academy closely affiliated with Al-Masri whose graduates enjoy the safe environment that Al-Masri provides for its dancers. "A Gathering for Belly Dance Fun and Education" is just one special offing that Al-Masri, in conjunction with the Sausan Academy, provides as a special event to its customers wanting to learn more about the dance, culture, and cuisine. Another offing is the "Sausan Academy of Egyptian Dance Recital of Graduates" offered four times a year.

History
Established in 1999.

Al-Masri opened its doors as the brainchild of Dr. Hatem El-Sayed, a native Egyptian who saw the opportunity to introduce his native cuisine, culture, and dance to San Francisco Bay Area diners. Seeing that no single restaurant featured authentic Egyptian cuisine, he took an existing restaurant and transformed it into an era long gone when King Farouk ruled the country and belly dancers like Taheyia Karioka, Samia Gamal, and Na'eema Akef headlined the marquiee. After a year of redecorating, he and is partner Sausan opened to rave reviews. While Dr. El-Sayed welcomed in customers, Sausan prepared the cuisine and taught the dancers to belly dance for the crowds with authentic Egyptian style belly dancing. Today, Al-Masri serves as a landmark to all who have dined and danced there. The Sausan Academy of Egyptian Dance and Al-Masri act in partnership in promoting the cuisine, culture and dance of Egypt with quarterly recitals, gatherings, and other like events.
